Noninvasive monitoring of polymer curing reactions by dielectrometry

A microwave sensor system for the noninvasive monitoring of the curing process of a thermoset material placed inside a metallic mold is described. The microwave sensor is designed as an open-ended coaxial resonator with a curved surface adapted to the mold inner shape. The analysis of the microwave resonator comprises a recently developed method for deembedding the effect of coupling network in overcoupled resonators, so the range of permitted measurements encompass both low and high dielectric losses of polymeric materials. Design of a narrow-band filter based on the Brewster phenomenon for microwave applications

A high-efficiency narrow-band filter based on a Dielectric Frequency-Selective Surface (DFSS) has been predicted theoretically for oblique plane-wave incidence. A DFSS showing total reflection at a frequency of 10.5 GHz, based on the Brewster phenomenon for TM polarization, has been designed with a single dielectric grating, showing extremely low-reflectance sidebands adjacent to the resonance peak. The angular and spectral response of the designed filter has been studied. In addition, dielectric ohmic losses have been accounted for in this structure. Since the last decades, dielectric ceramics have been considered as attractive for microwave applications as tunable dielectric resonators or phase shifters. For that, ceramic devices should be tunable – change in dielectric constant with applied voltage- with moderate to low dielectric constant (30 to 1000) and loss tangent as low as possible. To reconcile these properties, composite ceramics based on Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 (BSTO) and a non-ferroelectric oxide with a low dielectric constant (MgTiO3 or MgO) were synthesised.
